47m bottles of gin were sold in Briton in 2017.
UK gin sales have doubled in value over the last six years, and in 2017 Briton sold a record number of bottles of Gin in 1 year. With sales reaching £1.2bn in the 12 months to the end of September, according to the latest market report from the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA), an increase of 7 million bottles on the year before.
Is the market slowing down? erm... No.
With new gins being on the market every month, the nation has a job on its hands to taste all the flavour combinations. The figures were released as a YouGov poll found gin is the most popular spirit in the UK, with 29% of drinkers voting it their favourite. Gin has leapfrogged from third place, compared with the same poll a year ago, with whiskies (25%) in second place and vodka (23%) close in third.
Gin-themed gifts available are on the rise, and have become a staple of the Birthday or Christmas present. Gifts include hot water bottles, baubles, advent calendars, Christmas jumpers, fairy lights, Christmas crackers, tote bags, stationary and even gin-flavoured cheese.
